La parte m\u00e1s antigua del edificio procede del siglo XVIII. Es tradici\u00f3n antigua que los vecinos de las iglesias de San Andr\u00e9s y San Juan de Barredo constitu\u00edan en principio una sola feligres\u00eda, hall\u00e1ndose el templo en el sitio que actualmente lleva el nombre de San Xo\u00e1n Vello, entre ambas parroquias. Perteneci\u00f3 al decanato de la Monta\u00f1a de la di\u00f3cesis mindoniense y es matriz de Santiago de Meda.
